A Rogue Baker

A Rogue Baker saw an unfilled niche: the lack of “good” bagels in Southeast Michigan. But its mission goes far beyond bagels and baking; A Rogue Baker is in the business for community, creativity, and empathy. The business incorporates a strong focus on #supportlocal and building the local food community in the region. ARB’s mission states this well: “A Rogue Baker peddles bagels and postcards to catalyze community by feeding connections and creativity.”

Goals

  • A brand that is timeless yet modern. A logo that is intricate and detailed yet minimalist and clean.

  • Evoke the shape of a bagel, but don’t pigeonhole the brand into just bagels.

  • Evoke the “rogue” side of A Rogue Baker rather than the “baker” side. The logo should evoke connection and community-making.

  • Incorporate a compass rose.

Logo & Favicon

The primary logo is a complex and sleek design, while the favicon allows for a consistent brand look in smaller instances.

Colors & Type

We selected color and type that felt organic yet modern. The light colors in the palette were inspired from the tan hues in baking flour and parchment paper, while also including a dark green shade inspired by nature’s deep green hues.

Packaging & Photography

Once the brand was created, we worked on custom packaging designs and product photography to showcase the new logo in print and digital applications.

Kari understood from the beginning how deeply personal it is to create a brand. She handled every step of the process with such care and patience–as if it were her own business rather than my start-up baking enterprise.
