Double Up Food Bucks

The Double Up Food Bucks program aims to increase access to healthy food for low-income families across the nation by expanding their purchasing power for locally-grown fruits and vegetables. Kari of Orso Design Co led design and communications strategy to connect with families on food assistance.

In her work with Double Up Food Bucks, Kari designed a suite of over 30 different print and digital templates, covering everything from produce shelf signs to social media graphics, which could be customized to highlight location-specific information and program details. This system provided local partners with sophisticated materials that increased their marketing capacity, while also giving them the power to choose which materials worked best for their respective sites and populations.

These designs positioned Fair Food Network’s Double Up Food Bucks as a national leader in marketing produce incentives, which enabled it to successfully secure federal funding to create a national ‘hub’ for incentives outreach.

“As I continue to see my designs in grant applications for federal farm bill dollars or in Detroit farmers markets as I shop, I am reminded of the power good designs have to influence spending, attitudes, and behavior.” - Kari
